Summer 2026
As all Twin Cities residents know, summertime in Minnesota is one big construction zone. It’s our window of opportunity to repair roads, bridges, and homes before the snow and cold return. And here at Amy Johnson Residence, we too are under construction. We have a beautiful porch on our second floor that had foundation issues requiring both the back porch and that second floor porch above it to be removed and rebuilt. It has been interesting for us to watch the progress of both the demolition and the rebuild.
Our spring seedlings that we planted in the raised bed have grown to blooming flowers. We have fragrant sweet peas in varying colors, mostly lilac, purple, and burgundy climbing up their scaffolding. Our pink zinnias keep producing blooms, and we have snapdragons of many colors: yellow, burgundy, pink, white. The zinnias attract the Monarch butterflies, and the bare dirt of the raised garden bed attracts turkeys where they’ll take dirt baths! We enjoy the daily turkey parade that comes through the yard. The two mothers come by with their combined families, and we’ll have well over a dozen turkeys of all sizes grazing and drinking. At other hours the three male turkeys come by for their time at the feeder and other amenities the yard offers. We often find them roosting in the strangest places, like our fence or on top of the gazebo.
Our newsletter includes more pictures and stories from the season.
Thank you
We thank Jackie and Ron Dexter for their generous donations for the house. We also want to thank Dori Ince for her Hawaiian tissue paper flower tutorial and supplies for our Hawaii party.
